🤕Groin pain when running? What could it be? 🤷♂️
There are a number of things that can cause groin pain when running, here are some of the possibilities:
Adductor-related
Hip flexor related
Hip joint related: including labral issues
Inguinal related: pain in the inguinal area & tenderness of the inguinal canal, this does NOT include hernias
Pubic related: tenderness at the pubic symphysis +/- surrounding bone
❗️Less common causes, but not to be missed!
Lumbar spine & SIJ joint- referral of pain
Hernia: inguinal or femoral hernias
Nerve entrapment: obturator, ilioinguinal, genitofemoral, iliohypogastric
Avulsion fracture or apophysitis: ASIS, AIIS, pubic bone
Stress fracture: neck of femur, pubic ramus, acetabulum
Visceral referral: genitourinary, gastrointestinal, gynaecological conditions
As you can see, many structures in this area can cause groin pain, & management can differ depending on the cause!
